AFE Navigator 7.2 - Technical Infrastructure and Platforms

Important enhancements to the key pieces of the AFE Navigator technical infrastructure – database, server, and desktop - combine to make AFE Navigator 7.2 a valuable new release.

It is no secret that AFE Navigator is the oil and gas industry's leading integrated AFE workflow and capital tracking solution. With unparalleled levels of efficiency, control and accountability ensures AFE Navigator customers are in complete control of their capital spending process.

With each new version of AFE Navigator, our commitment to innovation is clearly demonstrated. Enhancements and new features have been or are designed to add value to the user experience in turn enabling users to focus their energy on the job without jumping through hoops.

AFE Navigator 7.2 offers you a number of valuable new features and enhancements including:

Run AFE Navigator with a Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle 11g database server

AFE Navigator now runs with SQL Server and Oracle 11g in an effort to satisfy a wider variety of database server requirements and anticipate the future IT needs of our customers. We have re-architected the data access layer of AFE Navigator to support these new database server platforms.

Thin the AFE Navigator workstation footprint by removing the Oracle database client

AFE Navigator 7.2 eliminates the need for Oracle 9i, 10g, or 11g client on most workstations. With the introduction of the Devart ADO.NET provider for Oracle, we have taken advantage of a Direct mode setting in the provider to eliminate the Oracle database client as a requirement of the AFE Navigator 7.2 and Data Navigator 7.2 applications. The Devart ADO.NET provider is automatically bundled with all of the other AFE Navigator Network Components and therefore does not need to be installed on individual workstations. Long gone are those conflicts for different versions of the Oracle database client required by other applications within your organization.

Run AFE Navigator with a 64-bit application server

The AFE Navigator service component now runs with a 64-bit application server. The 64-bit version of Windows handles large amounts of random access memory (RAM) more effectively than a 32-bit system. This increase in RAM provides improved processing power. Our commitment to staying on top of technology developments also means that we are working towards complete desktop/workstation 64-bit compatibility.

Increased ability to synchronize and schedule events

We have added infrastructure for the scheduling and synchronizing of events to ensure you are using the most up to date data from your other key business systems within AFE Navigator. Avoid redundant data entry and gain peace of mind that your data is accurate and recent. Take a copy of the latest Partner, Area, Users and Accounts data from other systems and duplicate it in real time in AFE Navigator.

Database Independent AFE Numbering

AFE numbering has moved into the service component of AFE Navigator in order to simplify implementation and transfer of historical AFE data. New processes for new users and System Administrators have greatly improved the AFE numbering set up and configuration.

Increased quotas on API

We have increased the size of allowable data transfer through the AFE Navigator service in order to improve existing integration capabilities with your other key business systems. For example, AFEs with a large number of associated Partners will be processed as seamlessly as smaller AFEs. By increasing the quotas we are enabling AFE Navigator customers more flexibility in their integration plans and efforts.

Expanded Enterprise Integration Facilities

Expand your integration horizons with more options to take advantage of our valuable Enterprise Integration facilities in order to build business workflow across your key business systems. We have reconfigured AFE Navigator to increase compatibility with .Net applications to support enterprise integration. For outbound notification and integration, Enterprise Events and Enterprise Validation now support additional Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) message styles that work with a number of SOAP toolkits.

Streamlined Historical AFE Data, Create Rights, and Approval Rules Imports

The historical data loader in AFE Navigator is now more readily accessible to all users. We have taken this functionality out of a separate spreadsheet utility and moved it right into the application. A more convenient location also means that even more users will benefit from this tool. Take advantage of this enhancement to load data that may not have an assigned AFE number. This provides you with more flexibility to load incomplete AFEs or those AFEs with different statuses.

We have improved the flexibility to segregate duties among the various users within AFE Navigator. Create Rights and Approval rules used to be coupled together in a separate utility and they are now separated and available from within the application. System Administrators have the ability to delegate Rights and Rules to different people.

New Database Tool

AFE Navigator has a new database tool that significantly enhances the version upgrade process. Customers can now move from any AFE Navigator version to 7.2 without having to undergo numerous upgrades to previous versions. Concerns about compromising data quality during the upgrade process are unnecessary. The new database tool also facilitates seamless upgrades from any version of Oracle to SQL Server.

New Copy Database Mechanism

Import Actuals Improvements

Import Actuals functionality is now readily accessible as part of the user interface in AFE Navigator. Instead of importing CSV files via Data Navigator you can complete this workflow from the main application. You also have the option of importing multiple date periods in one import faster and more efficient imports.
